Services

We aim to add value to your business by reducing risk, and the costs that come with it

Integrated Safety Support works with clients in industries that include aviation, mining, emergency services, road transport, oil and gas, the military, rail and healthcare. We add value through the integration of up-to-date research, technology, innovation, knowledge and experience into clients' operational systems. We are a professional organisation that provides assistance and expertise to help our clients answer key fatigue-related questions which are important in today’s world such as:

  • How do we develop a Fatigue Risk Management System?
  • How do we best design schedules and rosters to reduce fatigue-related risk?
  • How can we educate our workforce to understand the factors that can contribute to Fatigue?
  • How can we best identify, report and control hazards relating to Fatigue?
  • Can we train our management team to understand the implications of fatigue-related risk?
  • As a Road Transport operator, should we apply for ADVANCED Fatigue Management accreditation?

Road Transport Advanced Fatigue Management (AFM)

New Laws relating to Heavy Vehicle Driver fatigue came into effect in Australia in September 2008. The Integrated Safety Support team includes 3 registered Fatigue Experts who are able to review applications for Advanced Fatigue Management accreditation and offer guidance on improving clients' Fatigue Risk Management Systems. We have supported all of the first 12 approved AFM applications in Australia – see the AFM Client Testimonials page for more information.

Fatigue Risk Management Systems

We help our clients to plan, design and implement Fatigue Risk Management Systems. This includes the development and implementation of Fatigue Risk Management policy, procedures and processes and their integration into existing safety systems, as well as site visits to examine fatigue issues closely and discuss them with employees in the working environment.

As all such systems are dynamic, provision should therefore be made for ongoing improvement. Integrated Safety Support is also able to help with periodic reviews and audits of Fatigue Risk Management Systems to ensure that they are functioning as intended and that controls for fatigue exposures continue to be effective and appropriate to the operation in the future.

Hours of Work, Rostering and FAID® Analysis

We assist our clients in the Planning, Design, Analysis, Evaluation and Audit of current and/or future Rosters and Schedules – and provide support in interpreting data to manage fatigue-related risk appropriately. Our expertise in this area includes the co-development of the FAID® software program in conjunction with InterDynamics Pty Ltd and Professor Drew Dawson.

FAID® is a mathematical model that can be used to estimate work-related fatigue based on Hours of Work. Using FAID® during the design and/or analysis of rosters and work schedules can help to identify potential periods when fatigue-related risk associated with Hours of Work may be unacceptably high. The next step is to manage such risks with appropriate controls embodied in the Fatigue Risk Management System in order to minimise fatigue-related risk. The FAID® system is used widely in Aviation, Rail and Marine transport as well as other industries, and is also used as part of the investigation of safety incidents to determine whether fatigue may have been a contributory factor.

Fatigue Training and Education Support

Training is one of the most important elements of managing fatigue-related risk. Integrated Safety Support has extensive experience in providing training and education in various industries and to a wide range of audiences including truck and train drivers, airline pilots, air traffic controllers, transport managers, managing directors and even high school to postgraduate students. We can provide training needs analyses for our clients, and deliver fatigue-related training and education either by facilitating workshops or supplying training support materials. These materials can be provided in a variety of formats which can be tailored to suit a specific organisation and workforce. Thus, training can be conducted via online internet and intranet, printed workbooks, audio CDs and audiovisual DVDs such as the "REM's Sleep" and "Dead Tired" DVDs available here.
